Объяснение

A compound sentence has two or more simple sentences, each with its own grammatical base. The coordinating conjunctions «и, да (= и), тоже, также» join them to show sequence or simultaneity: «Москва — столица России, и Санкт-Петербург — её культурный центр». A comma goes before the conjunction. No comma is needed when the parts share a secondary member (such as «В России…») or an introductory word: «Летом в Москве тепло и идут дожди». Russia is a federal state made up of republics, territories (края), regions (области) and other constituent entities; its legislature is the Federal Assembly (the Federation Council and the State Duma).

Примеры
«Байкал находится в Сибири, и это самое глубокое озеро на Земле». Two clauses joined by «и», with a comma before it.
Shared member: «Зимой в Якутии стоят сильные морозы и дует холодный ветер». «Зимой в Якутии» belongs to both parts, so there is no comma.
Работа в классе

“Join two”. Pair simple sentences from cards with «и / также / тоже» into compound sentences and add the punctuation.
