In asyndetic sentences the comma lists, the colon explains or gives a reason, and the dash shows contrast, condition, quick change and result. «Весь» means the full amount, «целый» a whole unit or emphasis. «Ведь» reminds of a known reason, «же» emphasises, «неужели» shows surprise, «разве» shows doubt.
