§ 21. A. S. Pushkin, founder of the modern Russian literary language: comparative constructions and the superlative degree
The comparative is simple (-ее, -е, -ше: «красивее, выше, дальше») or compound («более/менее» + adjective: «более интересный»). The simple form does not change; the compound form declines like an adjective. Comparison uses «чем» or the genitive: «Он старше, чем брат» = «Он старше брата». The superlative is simple (-ейш-, -айш-: «добрейший, высочайший») or compound («самый высокий, наиболее интересный»). Some adjectives change completely: «хороший — лучше, плохой — хуже». Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799–1837) is the founder of the modern Russian literary language and the author of the novel in verse «Евгений Онегин»; 6 June, Pushkin’s birthday, is Russian Language Day.
“Who is stronger?”. Pairs compare two objects and make sentences with both «чем» and the genitive.
