Explanation

An adverbial of place answers «где? куда? откуда?»: «в городе, домой, из школы, рядом с парком, вдали, налево». A clause of place joins the main clause with «где, куда, откуда», and the main clause often has the demonstrative «там, туда, оттуда»: «Туда, куда указывал путеводитель, мы и пошли», «Мы остановились там, где начинался парк». The clause is set off by a comma. Alisher Navoi (1441–1501) was born in Herat and spent most of his life there and is considered the founder of the Uzbek literary language; he wrote the «Khamsa» (five poems) and, in 1499, «Muhokamat ul-lug‘atayn».

Worked examples
«Там, где стоит памятник Навои, всегда много гостей». «Там» is the demonstrative, «где» shows place.
«Туристы шли туда, откуда доносилась музыка». «Туда» is direction, «откуда» is source.
Class activity
