Explanation

The three Rs: reduce (use less water, electricity, gas, energy, paper), reuse (glass jars, bags, old paper), recycle (glass, plastic bottles, cardboard, newspapers, paper). The prefix re- often means “again”: rewrite, redo, reuse, refill, repeat, recycle, resell. Not every word beginning with re- has this meaning: report, result, region, ready, red. Sentences: “We can save trees if we recycle paper.” “We should turn off the lamp and the TV.” “Reuse a plastic bag.” Project: make a 10-sentence quiz or a poster: True/False (“We save water when we have a bath.” — False).

Worked examples
“The three Rs”. We can help our planet with three Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle. Reduce means use less: turn off the lamp and the TV. Reuse means use things again: take a bag to the shop. Recycle means make something new from old things: paper, glass and plastic bottles. If everybody does a little, the Earth becomes cleaner.
Rewrite means write again. Reuse means use again. Report does not mean “port again”.
Class activity

“True/False quiz”: the teacher reads a sentence (“Trees give oxygen.”) and pupils say True or False.
