Textbook: p. 8
GoalSay a dream job with “I want to be …” / “He wants to be …”.
New words
want · xohlamoqbe · bo‘lmoqbecause · chunkidream job · orzudagi kasb
Explanation
To say what you want to be in the future use “want to be”: “I want to be a pilot.” With he, she, it the verb want takes -s: “She wants to be a doctor.” Questions: “What do you want to be?” — “What does he want to be?” To give a reason answer “Why?” with “because”: “I want to be a reporter because I like asking questions.” Negative: “He doesn’t want to be a driver.” After does/doesn’t the verb want has no -s, because does already shows the third person.
Worked examples
“Dreams”. Dilnoza wants to be a doctor because she likes helping people. Her brother Jasur wants to be a pilot because he loves planes. Their cousin doesn’t want to be a pilot. He wants to be a cook because he likes making cakes.
— What do you want to be? — I want to be an architect. — Why? — Because I like drawing houses.
Class activity
“Dream chain”: a pupil says “I want to be … because …”; the next repeats “He/She wants to be … because …” and adds his or her own dream.
Practice
1
What does Jasur want to be? (pilot)
He wants to be a pilot.
2
Correct the mistake: She want to be a doctor.
She wants to be a doctor.
3
Make a negative sentence: Aziz / want / be / a driver
Aziz doesn’t want to be a driver.
4
Why “He doesn’t want” and not “He doesn’t wants”?
Doesn’t already shows the third person, so the main verb gets no -s.
