Professions

Textbook: p. 7
GoalLearn names of professions and answer “What does he do?”
New words
photographer · fotografinterpreter · og‘zaki tarjimonarchitect · me’morgardener · bog‘bon
Explanation

To ask about a job: “What’s your father’s job?” or “What does your father do?” Answer: “He’s an engineer.” We can also say what the person does: a photographer takes photos; a gardener grows flowers; an architect designs buildings; an interpreter translates what people say into another language. Possessive: my father’s job; Lena’s mother is a doctor. Use an before a vowel sound (an architect, an interpreter, an engineer) and a before the rest (a gardener, a photographer). More jobs: reporter, chef, policeman, computer programmer, sales assistant.

Worked examples
— What does your uncle do? — He’s an architect. He designs houses and bridges. — Does he work in an office? — Yes, he does, but he also visits building sites.
Sevara is a reporter. She asks people questions and writes the news. Her brother is a gardener. He grows apples and roses.
Class activity

“Tic Tac Toe”: write jobs in a 3×3 grid. To win a square say a correct sentence about the job: “A librarian works in a library. She knows about books.”
