Working with a text and vocabulary

Textbook: pp. 37–38
GoalWork on a text about space and observe sound changes in it.
New words
universe, space · koinotplanet · sayyoragalaxy · galaktikastar · yulduz
Explanation

Read the text and retell its content in your own words. Find the meanings of unfamiliar words (koinot, sayyora, galaktika) in the dictionary. Find words in the text that changed after a suffix was added: they may show addition, loss or replacement of a sound. For example, when -da is added to «bu», it becomes «bunda»: the sound n is added. Such observation teaches us to notice phonetic phenomena quickly.

Worked examples
Text: «Quyosh oilasi» (The Sun’s family). The Sun is a star. Eight planets revolve around it; the Earth is the third. Such conditions are favourable for life. The Solar System lies in the Milky Way galaxy.
Bunda — bu + -da (n added); atrofida — atrof + -i + -da.
Class activity

“Space expedition”: using the text, children make one question each about planets and ask each other.

Practice
1
According to the text, how many planets revolve around the Sun?
2
Counting from the Sun, which planet is the Earth?
3
From which word and how was «bunday» formed?
4
Explain in your own words, based on the text, what a galaxy is.
