Explanation

An idiom is a fixed combination with one whole figurative meaning that often equals a single word. Idioms, like words, can be synonyms or antonyms of each other: qo‘li gul (skilful) — qo‘lidan ish kelmaydi (clumsy); ko‘ngli joyiga tushdi (calmed down) — yuragi orqasiga tortib ketdi (got badly frightened). Some more idioms: qulog‘i ding bo‘ldi — listened intently; ko‘z ochib yumguncha — very quickly; ilonning yog‘ini yalagan — very cunning; boshi qotdi — did not know what to do. If we use an idiom without knowing its meaning, the sentence turns funny or wrong.

Worked examples
