Working with a text and vocabulary

Textbook: p. 28
GoalAnalyse a text and tell vowels from consonants in words.
New words
ecology · ekologiyaprotection · muhofazasapling · ko‘chatenvironment · atrof-muhit
Explanation

In this lesson we work on a text about nature. Ecology is the science that studies the links between living things, including people, and nature. Read the text, tell its content and find unfamiliar words in the dictionary. Then analyse words by their sound make-up: find how many vowels and consonants they contain. For example, the word «daraxt» (tree) has two vowels (a, a) and four consonants (d, r, x, t). Such practice teaches us to hear and write sounds correctly.

Worked examples
Text: «Toza havo» (Clean air). Every tree cleans the air during the day. So if in spring each family plants one sapling in its yard, the environment will be clean and healthy.
«Ko‘chat» — 2 vowels (o‘, a), 3 consonants (k, ch, t). «Tabiat» (nature) — 3 vowels (a, i, a), 3 consonants (t, b, t).
Class activity

“Two baskets”: children sort words from the text into those with more vowels and those with more consonants.

Practice
1
According to the text, why is a tree useful?
2
What does the word «ekologiya» mean?
3
How many vowels and consonants does «havo» have?
4
Why would it be useful for every family to plant one sapling? Write your idea.
