Explanation

When a consonant sound is said, the air meets an obstacle somewhere in the oral cavity — at the lips, the teeth or the tongue. Our language has 24 consonant sounds: b, d, f, g, h, j, dj, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, x, y, z, g‘, sh, ch, ng. Some are written with two letters but are one sound: sh, ch, ng. Pay attention to the pronunciation of consonants: sensing where the air meets the obstacle helps to say a sound correctly. For example, in «b» the air meets an obstacle at the lips, in «t» between the tip of the tongue and the teeth.

Worked examples
In the word «maktab» (school) the consonants are m, k, t, b; the vowels are a, a.
