Explanation

Lexicology studies words and their meanings. Let us recall: synonyms are words of different form with close meanings (chiroyli — go‘zal); antonyms are words of opposite meaning (issiq — sovuq); homonyms sound and are written the same but have different meanings (tush — noon, tush — a dream); paronyms are similar in pronunciation and spelling but differ in meaning (nafas — nafis); an idiom is a combination with one whole figurative meaning, often equal to one word (qo‘li ochiq — generous). Besides, words are divided into native and borrowed, old and newly emerged; terms, place names and personal names are also studied in lexicology.
