Explanation

Words denoting kinship are an important layer of our language. On the father’s side: bobo, buvi, amaki (father’s brother), amma (father’s sister). On the mother’s side: tog‘a (mother’s brother), xola (mother’s sister). Aka, uka, opa, singil are born of the same parents. Jiyan is the child of a brother or sister, nevara is the child of one’s child. Kelin is a son’s wife, kuyov a daughter’s husband. Kinship words are often used in address too: «Xolajon, kiring!» (Auntie, come in!) It is polite to address relatives with respect, using «siz».
