CLIL Geography: what’s the weather like around the world?

Textbook: pp. 98–99
GoalWeather around the world: hurricane, tornado, rainstorm, blizzard, thunder and lightning.
New words
hurricane · bo‘ron-dovul (okean)tornado · tornado (girdob)blizzard · qor bo‘ronithunder and lightning · chaqmoq va momaqaldiroq
Explanation

Strong weather: a hurricane is a huge spinning storm that forms over warm ocean and moves onto land; its center is called the “eye”. A tornado is a narrow spinning column of air over land. A rainstorm is very heavy rain. A blizzard is heavy snow with strong wind. Thunder is the sound; lightning is the flash. We see the lightning first and then hear the thunder because light travels faster than sound. Safety: during a thunderstorm stay indoors, away from windows, and never stand under a tree or in an open place. Follow adults’ instructions.

Worked examples
A blizzard is cold and snowy and very windy.
We can see lightning first and then we hear thunder.
Class activity

“Weather cards”: each card shows a kind of weather; a child gives two clues (for example “very windy, snow”) and the class guesses: “It’s a blizzard!” Repeat the safety rules.
