Explanation

Ng is also a single consonant sound written with a letter pair. It is not n and g said separately. For example, tong has 3 sounds: t, o, ng. Ng comes at the end of a word (tong, rang, keng) and in the middle (dengiz, ko‘ngil).

Worked examples
keng (wide) — 4 letters, 3 sounds (k, e, ng).
dengiz (sea) — 6 letters, 5 sounds (d, e, ng, i, z).
Class activity

“Find ng”: the teacher reads a text; when a word with ng comes, children touch their nose (ng is said through the nose). Then they write those words on the board.

Practice
1
How many letters and sounds are in ming (thousand)?
2
How many sounds are in ko‘ngil (heart, feelings)?
3
