Telling vowel and consonant letters apart
Textbook: Part 1, topic 3, pp. 30–45
GoalSeparate vowel and consonant letters in city names and fill in a missing consonant.
New words
city · shaharregion · viloyatletter · harfto complete · to‘ldirmoq
Explanation
Every word has vowel letters and consonant letters. To separate them we say the word slowly and check each sound. Sh is one consonant sound, but it is written with two letters. So Toshkent has 5 consonant sounds but 6 consonant letters.
Worked examples
Buxoro — consonants: b, x, r. Vowels: u, o, o.
Farg‘ona — consonants: f, r, g‘, n (4). Vowels: a, o, a (3).
