Explanation
At the start of a conversation we greet. We ask an acquaintance how they are: “Salomatmisiz?” (Are you well?), “Yaxshi yuribsizmi?” (Are you doing well?). We speak to elders with “siz” (the polite you) and do not interrupt them. We do not forget the words “rahmat” (thank you), “iltimos” (please), “kechirasiz” (excuse me). We listen carefully to the other person.
Worked examples
To an elder: “Assalomu alaykum, domla! May I come in?” To a friend: “Salom, Ali! How are you?”
We do not interrupt; first we listen, then we answer.
Class activity
“Polite or impolite?”: the teacher acts out small scenes (not greeting, interrupting, saying thank you). Children raise a hand and say “polite” or “impolite” and explain why.
