Telling number and order apart

Textbook: Part 3, topic 20, pp. 78–95
GoalTell words showing number from words showing order.
New words
three (things) · uchtathird · uchinchifive (things) · beshtafifth · beshinchi
Explanation

A number word tells how many or how much: uchta, beshta. An order word tells the place: uchinchi, beshinchi. To decide which it is we ask a question: Nechta? or Qancha? — number; Nechanchi? — order.

Worked examples
Uchta bola keldi (Nechta?). (Three children came.) Uchinchi bola keldi (Nechanchi?). (The third child came.)
Beshta daftar (five notebooks) — number. Beshinchi daftar (the fifth notebook) — order.
Class activity

“Number or order?”: words are written on the board. Children raise a hand for a number word and stand up for an order word.

Practice

2
