Writing names and surnames in sentences
Textbook: Part 3, topic 15, pp. 34–43
GoalWrite names and surnames correctly in sentences and tell a name from an ordinary word.
New words
Lola (girl’s name) · Lolatulip · lolaBahor (name) · Bahorspring · bahor
Explanation
In a sentence, a first name and surname are written with a capital letter. Some names look like ordinary words: Lola is a girl’s name, lola is a tulip. The girl’s name has a capital, the flower’s name a small letter. We underline a first name once and a surname twice.
Worked examples
Lola lolani sug‘ordi. (Lola watered the tulip.) The first is a name, the second a flower.
Alisher Navoiy buyuk shoir bo‘lgan. (Alisher Navoiy was a great poet.) Mirzo Ulug‘bek olim bo‘lgan. (Mirzo Ulug‘bek was a scholar.)
Class activity
“Name or word?”: pairs of words are written on the board (Bahor — bahor, Gul — gul). Children make sentences showing which is a name and write it with a capital.
Practice
1
Write the sentence correctly: bahor bahorda gul terdi. (Bahor picked flowers in spring.)
Bahor bahorda gul terdi.
2
Underline the first name once and the surname twice: Abdulla Qodiriy yozuvchi bo‘lgan. (Abdulla Qodiriy was a writer.)
Abdulla — one line; Qodiriy — two lines.
3
Make a sentence about a friend using their first name and surname.
For example: Sardor Karimov mening do‘stim. (Sardor Karimov is my friend.)
