Working with text and vocabulary
Textbook: pp. 75–77
GoalWork with a text and vocabulary: find and explain conjunction-less composite sentences in a text.
New words
abundance, blessing · barakasplendour, grace · fayzaffection · mehrprosperity, progress · ravnaq
Explanation
When finding conjunction-less composite sentences in a text, we look at the punctuation between the parts: a comma shows sequence, a dash contrast or result, a colon explanation. The punctuation reveals the relation between the parts, so explaining it helps us understand the text more deeply. In vocabulary we learn the meanings of new words: “baraka” – abundance, plenty of benefit; “fayz” – beauty, a pleasant atmosphere that lifts the heart; “mehr” – a feeling of cherishing; “ravnaq” – progress and prosperity. Express your attitude to the content of the text and use conjunction-less sentences.
Worked examples
Mini-text: “Affection.” Mother baked bread, and our home filled with warmth. Where there is affection there is abundance: even a little seems enough. The table is simple – the heart is generous. In such a family progress comes quickly.
Analysis: “Onam non yopdi, uyimiz fayzga to‘ldi” – comma (sequence, result); “... baraka bo‘ladi: kam narsa ham yetarli” – colon (explanation); “Dasturxon sodda – ko‘ngil esa keng” – dash (contrast).
Class activity
“Mark hunters”: groups find each punctuation mark in the text and name the relation.
Practice
1
Find a sentence of explanation in the text.
Mehr bor joyda baraka bo‘ladi: kam narsa ham yetarli tuyuladi.
2
What does the dash show in “Dasturxon sodda – ko‘ngil esa keng”?
Contrast (simplicity versus generosity).
3
Make a sentence with “ravnaq”.
For example: Ta’lim yurt ravnaqining asosi.
4
State the idea of the text in one sentence.
Where there are affection and harmony there are abundance and progress.
