Working with text and vocabulary

Textbook: pp. 64–66
GoalWork with a text and vocabulary: analyse a text containing subordinate composite sentences.
New words
hope · umidendurance · bardoshsteadfastness · matonatexample to follow · ibrat
Explanation

In this lesson we practise analysing subordinate composite sentences in a text. We first read the text expressively and determine its idea, then separate the composite sentences and find the main and subordinate clauses and the linking means of each. In vocabulary work we find the meanings of new words and make sentences: “bardosh” – endurance of difficulty, “matonat” – firmness and endurance, “ibrat” – an example worth following. Write your attitude to the text’s content: if you agree or disagree, give the reason. To give a reason use “chunki” or “shuning uchun”.

Worked examples
Mini-text: “The mountain path.” A young hiker set out before dawn so that he could reach the summit before the sun grew hot. The stones on the way were slippery, so he walked carefully. He thought that whoever is patient will reach the summit. This steadfastness became an example for others too.
Analysis: “..., toki quyosh qizimasdan cho‘qqiga yetib olsin” – purpose; “Yo‘lda toshlar sirpanchiq edi, shuning uchun u ehtiyot bilan yurdi” – reason (postpositional construction); “Kim sabr qilsa, o‘sha...” – correlative words.
Class activity

“Let’s be authors”: groups continue the text using one subordinate clause each of condition, reason and purpose.

Practice
1
Find a composite sentence with a clause of purpose in the text.
2
How do we know “shuning uchun u ehtiyot bilan yurdi” is the main clause?
3
Make a sentence with “matonat”.
4
Do you agree with the idea of the text? Give the reason with “chunki”.
