GoalNavoiy’s tale “Sen meni anglar bo‘lsang...” from Lison ut-tayr: expressive reading and prose retelling.
New words
gardener · bog‘bonadvice, counsel · pandfruitless · behosilfatal, death · halok
Explanation
The tale describes a man who does not know the gardener’s craft: how to graft, when to sow and how to tend. His friends, seeing his fruitless labour, advise him to leave it and take up a useful trade. He does not give up, and while cutting a vine, a snake bites him and he dies. The tale is in verse: the thought of each stanza must first be read in poetic intonation and then put in prose. The moral: one who takes up a work he does not know and ignores the counsel of masters suffers harm.
Worked examples
Prose retelling: “The gardener took on the work without skill; friends stopped him; he did not listen.”
Synonym pairs: pand — nasihat; halok — dead; behosil — useless.
Class activity
Two-voice reading: one pupil reads the gardener, another the friends; the class judges the “model reading”.
