Functional forms of the verb

Explanation

Verbs can link with other words in a sentence and serve as predicate, subject, object, adverbial or modifier. For this, the verb takes special forms. The verb forms specialized for serving as different sentence parts are called functional forms. A verb has four: 1) the finite verb (o‘qidi) — serves as predicate; 2) the verbal noun (o‘qimoq, o‘qish) — specialized for the noun; 3) the participle (o‘qigan, oqar) — specialized for the adjective; 4) the adverbial participle (o‘qib, kelgach) — specialized for the adverb.

Worked examples
The child read a book (finite verb). Reading is light (verbal noun). A child who has read (participle). He read the book through (o‘qib — adverbial participle).
Yozmoq, yozish, yozuv — verbal noun forms.

“Four forms”: the teacher shuffles cards with four forms of o‘qimoq; children group them by function.
