Names of water bodies and structures
Textbook: pp. 116–117
GoalSpell the names of water bodies and water structures correctly.
New words
river · daryolake · ko‘lsea · dengizreservoir · suv ombori
Explanation
Words such as daryo (river), ko‘l (lake), dengiz (sea), kanal, okean and suv ombori (reservoir) name water bodies and structures. They are common nouns and are lowercase when used alone: daryo bo‘yida (on the riverbank). The name of one particular water body is a proper noun and takes a capital: Zarafshon, Orol, Chorvoq. The words daryosi, ko‘li, dengizi, suv ombori added to a name are usually written separately in lowercase: Zarafshon daryosi, Orol dengizi, Chorvoq suv ombori. In some names the common word has fused into the name and is written together: Sirdaryo, Amudaryo, Aydarko‘l.
