Explanation

By purpose, texts fall into three types: narrative, descriptive and reasoning texts. A narrative tells events one after another and answers the question “What happened?”. It usually has three parts: an opening (where and when it began), the development of events and an ending. The predicates are often past-tense verbs: keldi (came), ko‘rdi (saw), aytdi (said). A fairy tale, an anecdote or an account of an event belongs to this type.

Worked examples
“The lost pencil”. On the way to school Aziz found a pencil. In class he showed it to the teacher. Dilnoza raised her hand: the pencil was hers. Aziz gave it back to its owner.
Opening — a pencil was found; development — its owner was looked for; ending — the pencil was returned.
Class activity

“Chain story”: each child adds one sentence to the story in turn. Mark the opening, development and ending as you go.
