Nouns for things
Textbook: p. 123
GoalIdentify and group nouns for things.
New words
thing noun · narsa otiobject · buyumphenomenon · hodisa
Explanation
Nouns that answer nima? (what?) and name objects, plants, animals and natural phenomena are thing nouns. They include names of objects (stol — table, qalam — pen), plants (olma — apple, terak — poplar, lola — tulip), animals (qo‘y — sheep, bulbul — nightingale) and phenomena (yomg‘ir — rain, shamol — wind, bahor — spring). Thing nouns can be common (daftar) or proper («Guliston», a magazine). They take plural, possessive and case suffixes: qalamlar, qalamim (my pen), qalamga (to the pen). In a sentence a thing noun can be subject, object or predicate.
Worked examples
