The comparative degree

Textbook: p. 150
GoalForm and use the comparative degree of the adjective.
New words
comparative degree · qiyosiy daraja-roq (more) · -roqcomparison · solishtirish
Explanation

The form that expresses, by comparison, that an attribute is somewhat more or less than the norm is the comparative degree. It is formed by adding -roq to the positive adjective: balandroq (taller), chiroyliroq (prettier), issiqroq (hotter). The suffix is always -roq and is joined to the stem. The thing compared usually stands in the ablative (-dan): Bu uy anavi uydan balandroq (This house is taller than that one). The comparative is formed only from qualitative adjectives. In comparison, sometimes “more” is felt, sometimes “somewhat”.
