We went by bus. I walked and took photos.” Order: before and after: “Before lunch he decided to fish. After lunch he went home.” Verbs: go – went, buy – bought, catch – caught, come back – came back, have – had, take – took, sleep – slept. Negative: “He didn’t catch any fish.” Use any in negatives: not … any fish.

Worked examples
“Mr Salimov went fishing”. Last Saturday Mr Salimov decided to go fishing. In the morning he went to the market and bought bread, cheese and some fruit. Before lunch he sat by the river and waited. After lunch he slept a little. He didn’t catch any fish, but he had a lovely day. On the way home he stopped at the market again and bought some fish for dinner. His children were very happy.
— Where did you go last weekend? — I went to the mountains. — Who did you go with? — With my cousins.
