The longest, the biggest ...

Textbook: p. 57
GoalComparatives and superlatives of adjectives: taller than, the tallest, the most beautiful.
New words
the longest · eng uzunthe biggest · eng kattathe best · eng yaxshithe worst · eng yomon
Explanation

The comparative compares two things: add -er + than to a short adjective: tall – taller than; big – bigger than (the consonant doubles); happy – happier than (y → i). Before long adjectives use more: more beautiful than. The superlative shows the top of a group: the + -est or the most: the tallest, the biggest, the heaviest, the most beautiful. Irregular: good – better – the best; bad – worse – the worst. Facts: Mount Everest is the highest mountain on Earth (8,849 m). The Pacific is the largest ocean. Asia is the largest continent. The blue whale is the biggest animal. Russia is the biggest country by area. The Amazon is the biggest river in the world by the amount of water.
