My best birthday

Textbook: p. 33
GoalWrite about a birthday with the Past Simple, regular and irregular verbs.
New words
celebrate · nishonlamoqinvite · taklif qilmoqget – got · sovg‘a olmoqdance · raqsga tushmoq
Explanation

The Past Simple tells about finished actions in the past: yesterday, last week, in 2018. Regular verbs add -ed: celebrate → celebrated (only -d after e), invite → invited, want → wanted, play → played. Consonant + y: try → tried. Short verbs double the final consonant: plan → planned, stop → stopped. Irregular verbs must be learned: have – had, get – got, give – gave, go – went, eat – ate, sing – sang, make – made, buy – bought. The form is the same for all persons: I/he/we invited. Questions and negatives use did / didn’t with the base verb: “Did you invite Ali?” “I didn’t invite him.”

Worked examples
“My best birthday”. Last Sunday I celebrated my twelfth birthday. I invited my friends to our garden. Mum cooked a big cake and Dad played music. We danced and sang songs. I got a lovely book from my aunt and a football from my brother. I liked the day very much.
— Did you have a party? — Yes, I did. — Did you get a lot of presents? — Yes, I did. I got three books.
Class activity
