Explanation

Konstantin Dmitrievich Ushinsky (1824–1871) was a Russian teacher and writer, the author of children's reading books. «Дедушка» is a short story about how a family treats its oldest member. The son and his wife treat the old grandfather as a burden, but the grandson reminds them that old age will come to them too. The story makes the reader think: showing kindness to the elderly is our duty. It gives the idea that you will be treated as you treat others.

Worked examples
«Дедушка» (a short retelling). (Grandfather grew very old. His son and daughter-in-law stopped seating him at the family table and fed him from a wooden bowl. The little grandson began to put together a little box from wood chips. “This is for you, when you are old,” he said. The parents felt ashamed. From then on they no longer treated grandfather badly.)
Proverb: «Что посеешь, то и пожнёшь» (you reap what you sow).
