Numerals 1–4 with nouns (genitive singular)

Textbook: pp. 79–83
GoalCombine the numerals «один, два, три, четыре» correctly with nouns (genitive singular).
New words
один · bittaдва · ikkitaтри · uchtaчетыре · to‘rtta
Explanation

A numeral (имя числительное) answers «сколько?» (how many?). «Один» changes with gender: «один мяч» (он), «одна форма» (она), «одно кимоно» (оно). «Два» goes with masculine and neuter, «две» with feminine: «два мяча, два окна, две формы». After «два, три, четыре» the noun stands in the genitive singular: «два мяча, три свистка, четыре книги, две ракетки». With an adjective, masculine and neuter use the genitive plural: «два новых мяча», while feminine uses the nominative plural: «две новые ракетки, три красивые формы». In a shop: «Дайте, пожалуйста, два мяча и одну сетку».

Worked examples

Хотите? — Да, возьму два мяча. — Вот две новые ракетки. — Спасибо!» (“Please give me one ball, two rackets and three whistles.” “We have four red balls. Would you like them?” “Yes, I will take two balls.” “Here are two new rackets.” “Thank you!”)
«Один свисток — два свистка — три свистка — четыре свистка»; «одна кепка — две кепки — три кепки»; «одно окно — два окна — три окна».
