Explanation
«Петух да собака» is an animal tale. A poor old couple's rooster and dog leave home for the forest because life there is hard. At night the rooster sits on a branch and the dog sleeps in the hollow of the tree. At dawn the rooster crows; a fox comes, flatters him and invites him to visit. The rooster says, “I have a friend too, he is asleep in the hollow,” the fox rushes to the hollow, and the dog catches her. The tale is about friends helping each other and the power of wit.

«Петух да собака» (a short retelling). «Петух и собака ушли из дома в лес. Ночью петух сидел на ветке, а собака спала в дупле. Утром петух запел, и прибежала лиса. Она хвалила петуха и звала его в гости. Петух ответил, что его друг спит в дупле. Лиса побежала к дуплу, и собака схватила её. Друзья всегда помогут друг другу.» (The rooster and the dog left home for the forest. At night the rooster sat on a branch and the dog slept in the hollow. In the morning the rooster crowed and a fox ran up. She praised the rooster and invited him to visit. The rooster answered that his friend was sleeping in the hollow. The fox ran to the hollow, and the dog seized her. Friends will always help each other.)

Class activity
“Little scene”. Three pupils: rooster, dog, fox. Say a short dialogue in Russian: «Иди ко мне в гости!» — «Я пойду только с другом».
