Explanation

A name is given to every person at birth and stays with them for life. When parents choose a name for their child, they express a good wish, so most names have beautiful meanings: Zafar — victory, Jasur — brave, bold, Sardor — leader, Nilufar — a beautiful flower growing in water (water lily). The branch of linguistics that studies people’s names is called anthroponymy. Names are always written with a capital letter, and some have an apostrophe: Ra’no, Ma’ruf. Writers have also chosen pen names: Ogahiy means “aware, informed”, Furqat means “separation”. Distorting a name or shortening it without reason is impolite.

Worked examples
Zafar — victory, Sardor — leader, Nodira — rare.
Ra’no and Ma’ruf are written with the apostrophe ’.
