Explanation

A noun-forming suffix makes a new noun; a case suffix joins a word to another word in the sentence. Order of analysis: first the case suffix, then the plural suffix, then the noun-forming suffix; the base is left at the end. For example: gulzorlarga – gul (base), -zor (noun-forming), -lar (plural), -ga (directional case).

Worked examples
paxtakorlarning (of the cotton growers): paxta – base; -kor – noun-forming; -lar – plural; -ning – possessive case.
tengdoshimga (to my peer): teng – base; -dosh – noun-forming; -im – possessive; -ga – directional case.
Class activity

“Find the suffix”: a word to analyse is on a card; children mark the suffixes with coloured pens (noun-forming – blue, case – red).
