Explanation

The subject and the predicate are the main parts of a sentence. The subject answers Kim? or Nima?; the predicate answers Nima qildi? Nima qiladi? Nima qilmoqchi? The other parts are secondary parts: we find them with questions (Nimani? Qayerda? Qanday?). For revision: there are six vowel letters, 24 consonant sounds, and a word consists of a base and suffixes.

Worked examples
Dilnoza kitob o‘qiydi. (Dilnoza reads a book.) Subject: Dilnoza (Kim?). Predicate: o‘qiydi (Nima qiladi?). Secondary: kitob (Nimani?).
Ikkita chaqqon bola hovlida o‘ynayapti. (Two nimble boys are playing in the yard.) Subject: bola. Predicate: o‘ynayapti. Secondary: ikkita, chaqqon, hovlida.
Class activity

“Sentence architects”: two groups get cards with a subject and a predicate and build a sentence by adding secondary parts.

Practice
1
Find the subject and predicate: Quyosh nur sochdi. (The sun gave light.)
2
Find the main parts: Bahorda daraxtlar gullaydi. (In spring the trees bloom.)
3
Which question does the subject answer?
