Adjectives of character and quality

Textbook: Part 3, pp. 38–41
GoalKnow adjectives of character and quality and describe people and animals.
New words
character trait · xislatmodest · kamtargenerous · saxiylazy · dangasa
Explanation

Adjectives of character and quality show the trait of a person, animal or thing: mehribon (kind), sabrli (patient), halol (honest), jasur (brave), kamtar (modest), saxiy (generous), dangasa (lazy), o‘jar (stubborn), ayyor (cunning). They show good (positive) or bad (negative) traits: kamtar – maqtanchoq, mehnatsevar – dangasa. When describing a trait it helps to give an example: Madina sabrli: she solves a puzzle for a long time.

Worked examples
Mehribon ona (a kind mother), jasur bola (a brave boy), saxiy odam (a generous person). Dangasa bo‘lma, mehnatsevar bo‘l. (Don’t be lazy, be hardworking.)
In fairy tales the fox is shown as cunning (ayyor) and the hare as timid (qo‘rqoq).
Class activity

“Who can guess?”: the teacher names trait adjectives (sabrli, jasur, saxiy); children tell a short story showing that trait.

Practice
