Explanation

Synonyms have different forms but the same or close meaning. They belong to one kind of word: quvonch – shodlik (nouns), jasur – botir (adjectives), gapirmoq – so‘zlamoq (verbs). Synonyms make speech rich and avoid repeating the same word. Their shades of meaning can differ a little, so choose the fitting one.

Worked examples
Nouns: quvonch – shodlik – xursandlik (joy). Adjectives: jasur – botir – qo‘rqmas (brave). Verbs: yugurmoq – chopmoq (to run).
Bola gapirdi, keyin o‘rtog‘i so‘zladi. (The boy spoke, then his friend spoke.) Both verbs have the same meaning.
Class activity

“Chain of synonyms”: the teacher says a word and children name its synonyms one after another; whoever stops is out.

Practice
1
Give a synonym for jasur.
2
Find the odd one out: quvonch, shodlik, g‘am (sorrow).
3
Find the verbs with a similar meaning: ko‘rmoq, qaramoq, uxlamoq.
