Explanation

We find the verbs in a text and ask each nima qildi? or nima qilmadi?. When we turn an affirmative verb into a negative one, the meaning becomes opposite: Qor yog‘di – Qor yog‘madi (It snowed – It did not snow). Each time -ma comes after the verb stem and the tense suffix stays the same: kelyapti – kelmayapti, ishladi – ishlamadi.

Worked examples
Kuz keldi. Barglar sarg‘ayib tushdi. Yomg‘ir yog‘madi. (Autumn came. The leaves turned yellow and fell. It did not rain.) – bo‘lishli: keldi, tushdi; bo‘lishsiz: yog‘madi.
Qush uchyapti. Mushuk uxlamayapti. (The bird is flying. The cat is not sleeping.)
