Explanation

Nouns in the main case answer Kim? Nima? Qayer? In this case the noun has no case suffix and stands in its basic form: bola, qalam, bog‘. In the plural it takes -lar: bolalar (Kimlar?), qalamlar (Nimalar?). A noun in the main case is often the subject of the sentence.

Worked examples
Bola uxladi. (The child slept.) – Kim? bola (main case, subject). Quyosh chiqdi. (The sun rose.) – Nima? quyosh.
Bog‘ gulga burkandi. (The garden was covered in flowers.) – Qayer? bog‘. Qushlar sayradi. (The birds sang.) – Nimalar? qushlar.
Class activity

“No suffix!”: the teacher reads a sentence; children find the word in the main case and say its question.
