Explanation

Parts that answer the same question, perform the same function in the sentence and depend on one part are called homogeneous parts. They are said with enumerating intonation and separated by commas; sometimes they are also joined by coordinating conjunctions (va, yoki, ammo). If a generalizing word comes before homogeneous parts, a colon follows it (and if the sentence continues after the list, a dash follows the homogeneous parts); if the generalizing word comes after them, a dash is put before it. Set-off parts are attributes, adverbials or objects that are singled out to stress or explain their meaning, and they are separated by a comma or dash. Homogeneous parts are not dependent on each other; they are equal.

Worked examples
Bog‘da olma, anor, uzum – barcha mevalar pishgan. (homogeneous subjects: olma, anor, uzum; generalizing word “barcha mevalar” follows – a dash before it)
Bog‘da barcha mevalar: olma, anor, uzum – pishgan. (generalizing word first – a colon after it; because the sentence continues after the list, a dash follows the homogeneous parts)
Class activity

“Counting chain”: each pupil adds a new homogeneous part to the sentence; the punctuation is put on the board.
