Textbook: p. 40
GoalPrepare and evaluate an oral speech for the “Most beautiful and moving speech” contest.
New words
oral speech · og‘zaki nutqexpressive delivery · ifodali o‘qishpronunciation · talaffuzintonation · ohang
Explanation
In an oral speech contest a topic is chosen, a plan made and a text prepared. In choosing words, using a dictionary of synonyms enriches the speech. During delivery pronunciation must be clear, intonation must fit the content, pace moderate and pauses made where needed. If the speech follows literary norms and the thought is coherent and supported by facts, it strongly affects listeners. After the contest the mistakes (pronunciation, style) in your own and your classmates’ speeches are noted and worked on.
Worked examples
Topic “A book is a loyal friend”. Plan: introduction (a book’s value), main part (3 examples), conclusion (an appeal).
Assessment criteria: content, structure, pronunciation and intonation, vocabulary, literary norm.
