Explanation
A noun answers kim? nima? qayer?. By meaning we distinguish person, thing, place and activity nouns, and concrete and abstract nouns. Proper nouns are capitalized: Navoiy, Zarafshon, Toshkent. Nationality names are lowercase: o‘zbek. Person nouns are formed by -chi, -kor, -dosh, -xon; thing nouns by -gich, -don; place nouns by -zor, -xona, -iston; abstract nouns by -lik, -ch. The plural uses -lar, the diminutive -cha, the endearment -gina and -jon. Paired nouns take a hyphen; many compound nouns are written together.
Worked examples
