Piece numerals and their formation
Textbook: p. 164
GoalForm and spell piece numerals.
New words
piece numeral · dona son-ta (pieces) · -tapiece · dona
Explanation
Numerals counting things by piece are piece numerals. They are made by adding -ta to a counting numeral: ikkita (two), uchta, beshta, o‘nta, yigirmata. Bir with -ta becomes bitta (one piece). Ikki with -ta is written ikkita. The meaning of counting by piece is also expressed by the word dona: besh dona qalam (five pens). Depending on the kind of thing, words such as nafar (persons), bosh (animals), tup (plants), litr, gramm are used: uch nafar o‘quvchi (three pupils), o‘n bosh qo‘y (ten sheep), besh tup daraxt (five trees). -ta is joined to the numeral.
