Textbook: p. 125
GoalKnow place nouns and the suffixes that form them.
New words
-zor (place full of) · -zor-xona (room, house) · -xona-iston (land) · -iston
Explanation
Nouns naming a place or territory are place nouns; they answer qayer? (where?). They are formed with -zor, -loq, -iston, -goh, -xona. -zor names a place with much of something: gulzor (flower garden), paxtazor (cotton field), lolazor (tulip field), tolzor (willow grove). -loq is similar: toshloq (stony place), qumloq (sandy place). -iston means “land”: O‘zbekiston, Tojikiston, qabriston (cemetery). -goh names a place where something is done: oromgoh (camp), sayilgoh (promenade), qarorgoh (headquarters). -xona names a room or institution: kutubxona (library), oshxona (canteen), dorixona (pharmacy). All are joined to the stem.
