Textbook: p. 85
GoalKnow the relational forms of the verb and tell them from the indefinite form.
New words
relational form · munosabat shakliindefinite form (infinitive) · noaniq shaklpredicate · kesimtense · zamon
Explanation
The forms added to verb stems that equip the verb to serve as the predicate are the verb’s relational forms. The suffixes of tense, mood and person-number are relational forms. Any verb that has these forms functions as a predicate: o‘qidi (read), boraman (I go), kelsin (let him come). A verb stem free of tense, mood and person meanings is the indefinite form, expressed with -moq: o‘qimoq, bormoq. The indefinite form is the dictionary form of the verb.
Worked examples
The child read — o‘qidi has tense (-di) and person (3rd person); it is the predicate.
O‘qimoq — the indefinite form, the dictionary form.
Class activity
“Predicate or not?”: the teacher says a form (o‘qidi, o‘qimoq) and children raise a hand if it can be a predicate.
