Working with a text and vocabulary

Textbook: pp. 46–48
GoalRetell a text, find synonyms and divide words into syllables.
New words
satellite; companion · yo‘ldoshfull moon · to‘lin oycrescent (new moon) · hilollight · yorug‘lik
Explanation

When working on a text, first understand its content, then answer the questions. Find the meanings of unfamiliar words in the dictionary. In this lesson we work with a text about the Moon. Finding synonyms of words in the text enriches speech: yorug‘ — nurli, charog‘on (bright). We also practise dividing words into syllables.

Worked examples
Text: «Tungi chiroq» (The night lamp). The Moon is the Earth’s natural satellite. It does not give off its own light but reflects the light of the Sun. That is why we see it sometimes as a thin crescent and sometimes as a full moon. On a full-moon night fields and gardens become brightly lit.
Oy-ning, hi-lol, yo‘l-dosh, cha-ro-g‘on.
Class activity

“Moon diary”: for a week children draw the shape of the Moon in their notebooks every night and compare in class.

Practice
1
According to the text, whose satellite is the Moon?
2
Why does the Moon look bright?
3
Give synonyms of the word «yorug‘».
4
Why do we see the Moon in different shapes during a month? Write your idea.
