Vowels and consonants side by side

Textbook: Part 1, pp. 21–23
GoalRead and write words where equal consonants or vowels stand side by side.
New words
side by side · yonma-yonthe same consonant · bir xil undoshtwo · ikkipainter · rassom
Explanation

In some words the same consonant is written twice side by side: ikki, yetti, rassom, hissa. Both letters are written and the sound is said a little longer. When vowels stand side by side, each makes its own syllable: oila (family) — o-i-la. The spelling of such words has to be remembered.

Worked examples
ikki (two) — ik-ki; yetti (seven) — yet-ti; rassom (painter) — ras-som: the same consonant side by side.
oila — o-i-la (3 syllables); saodat (happiness) — sa-o-dat (3 syllables): vowels side by side.
Class activity

“Double-letter detective”: children find words with the same consonant side by side in a text and write them on the board; whoever finds more wins.

Practice
1
Which word has the same consonant side by side: qalam, to‘qqiz, shahar?
2
Divide oila into syllables.
3
Fill in the consonant: i..i (2), ye..i (7).
