Forming plural nouns from singular ones

Textbook: Part 3, pp. 43–46
GoalMake plural nouns by adding -lar to singular nouns.
New words
plural suffix · -larto form · hosil qilmoqto multiply · ko‘paytirmoqto count · sanamoq
Explanation

The suffix -lar makes a plural noun from a singular one: o‘quvchi — o‘quvchilar, kitob — kitoblar, bola — bolalar, daraxt — daraxtlar. It is always written -lar. After a number the noun is not made plural: beshta qalam (not “beshta qalamlar”).

Worked examples
gul — gullar, sinf — sinflar, qush — qushlar, uy — uylar.
Bog‘da gullar ochildi. (Flowers bloomed in the garden.) Bog‘da beshta gul ochildi. (Five flowers bloomed in the garden.) The second sentence has a number, so «gul» stays singular.
Class activity

“The multiplier”: children stick a -lar card onto a noun card and read it. Then they check that after a number the noun stays singular: uchta daftar.

Practice
1
Make plurals: daftar, o‘rik, stul.
2
Which is correct: uchta qalam or uchta qalamlar?
3
Is the plural used correctly: Stol ustida kitoblar bor. (There are books on the table.)
