Explanation

A noun (ot) is the name of a person or thing. It answers Kim? or Nima?. For people we ask Kim?: hamshira (nurse), buvi (grandmother), o‘qituvchi (teacher). For things, animals and natural phenomena we ask Nima?: kursi (chair), mushuk (cat), randa (plane), yomg‘ir (rain). In a sentence nouns often serve as the subject.

Worked examples
Kim? — tikuvchi (tailor), opa (elder sister), shifokor (doctor). Nima? — sigir (cow), olma (apple), daftar (notebook).
Duradgor randa bilan taxtani silliqladi. (The carpenter smoothed the board with a plane.) Nouns: duradgor (Kim?), randa (Nima?), taxta (Nima?).
Class activity

“Kim or nima?”: the teacher says a word; children raise a hand for “Kim!” or sit for “Nima!”.
